Joker’s Tattoo & Piercing Studio has been a trusted name for more than 30 years. But for Joker — John McManus — motorcycles and biker culture go back even further.
Joker grew up surrounded by motorcycles, biker culture, and the brotherhood that comes with it. His father, Johnny McManus, was one of the founders of the Brotherhood of Bikers in Mexia, Texas, and later went on to establish the N.E.W.S. MC.
With roots that deep, it’s no surprise that Joker has lived and breathed the biker lifestyle his entire life. Growing up in the late ’70s and early ’80s, he witnessed the golden era of biker rallies firsthand — the camaraderie, the grit, the freedom, and the raw authenticity that defined the culture.
As newer generations of riders emerged, Joker noticed something was missing.
Too many riders had only heard the stories from the old-school bikers. They had heard about the rallies, the brotherhood, the bikes built in garages, the miles ridden together, and the nights that became stories told for decades — but they never had the chance to experience that kind of rally for themselves.
So Joker decided to bring it back.
Not just another event. Not another polished motorcycle show.
A real-deal, old-school biker rally built around what this life has always been about — steel, miles, loyalty, freedom, brotherhood, and stories that never get told twice the same way.
That vision became the Ink & Iron Rally and BackYard OutLaws.
A place where riders can roll in, put the kickstands down, and get back to what rallies used to feel like.
No fluff. No nonsense.
Just motorcycles, music, camping, good people, late nights, and the kind of memories the old-timers are still talking about years later.
For Joker, this didn’t come out of nowhere. It comes from a lifetime spent around motorcycles and the people who ride them. It comes from watching his father’s generation live a culture where brotherhood meant something, your word mattered, people knew how to turn a wrench, and you showed up when somebody needed you. It comes from believing some things are worth carrying forward.
That’s what Ink & Iron and BackYard OutLaws are about — honoring where biker culture came from while building something the next generation can experience for themselves.
A place where history isn’t forgotten.
